adidas Group is a leading worldwide manufacturer and marketer of sports, fitness, and lifestyle footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories that combine the attributes of athletic performance and style.
The Sports Licensed Division of the adidas Group in Canton, MA is seeking dedicated, organized, and committed individual for our 1-year post-graduate training program (Apprenticeship) for 2013-2014. This program will provide a qualified design graduate with the opportunity to gain hands on experience in assisting our SLD Apparel Design and Graphic Design Teams. Candidates will learn what it is like working for a fast paced Design organization and will be part of a dynamic team charged with creating innovative concepts and designs for both the Reebok and adidas brands.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the design department with various tasks including trend research, design presentations and graphic design projects for the NBA, NHL and other sports leagues/assets
- Create trend/story boards under the guidance of staff designers
- Create or revise projects for apparel and graphic design teams under the guidance of a design lead
- Build presentations and page layout designs
- Contribute design ideas and concepts for new products designs
Requirements:
- Recent graduates from US-based college or University (graduation dates of December through June)
- Students majoring in Graphic Design
- Solid sketching, rendering and visualization skills
- Strong Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
- Team oriented individual who can also work well independently
- Passion for sports and the sports industry

We would like you to develop a graphic concepts and product designs for our line using teams from the NHL, NBA or adidas colleges.
What inspires you in your active life, in sports and in sport-inspired street-wear? What kind of styles/designs do you think consumers want to wear with their favorite pro or college team? What do you know about adidas and Reeboks long history and how our unique heritage speaks to our current and future designs?
The Project:
Graphic T-Shirt Concept Pack:
Design 5-6 Graphic T-Shirts and/or Fleece Hoodies for any of the leagues or teams which adidas or Reebok endorse. Build a conceptual trend board outlining graphic ideas and design concepts to show how you can translate those influences and trends to graphics, while outlining new opportunities in the license world. You can design either mens or womens product, or both.
Look at the marketplace to see what silhouettes, fabrics and ink treatments are trending
(ie tri blend fabrics, foil prints, oversized graphics).
Key Elements:
Branding: You can use the adidas logo, or potentially the three stripes for adidas designs or the Reebok brand mark for any Reebok designs.
Team Marks: For adidas projects you can use either college logos (ND, UCLA, Michigan or Tennessee) or any NBA team. You can use any NHL team logos for Reebok projects.
Color/Graphic treatments: Use the school or teams colors for all work, if you would like to explore additional hybrid colors within the graphics you may but keep the primary colors related to the team you are designing for. Outline what type of inks and treatments you would use for the final designs.
Concept Approach: Be sure to create concept boards showing where your ideas are coming from and why they are relevant.
Layout: Presentation layout should be fresh and new, showing your style and enhancing your project.
As with any project, we look at designs from concept to completion, so your project should show your work from beginning to end. Your final submission should include the following:
- Concept boards, tear sheets or other materials that show your ideation phase before creating designs.
- Line art in Adobe Illustrator that translates your ideas to paper.
- A final rendering of your designs (in color) in a unique presentation format that showcases your work the best possible way and supports your overall project.
Submit this project with your cover letter, resume and samples of your work. All projects and samples should be no more than 5-6 pages, in 8x11 letter size, PDF file formats only.
