Overall responsibility for supervising operations involved in the manufacture, QC, & release of biologic products in the Bedford, MA plant. Manages and coordinates production output, schedules and key performance metrics. Accountable for operations cost, quality, safety, productivity and personnel. Directs subordinates to achieve key performance metrics and production goals, using established guidelines, policies and procedures. Drives a culture of Performance Excellence.
- Working through subordinate team members, responsible for operations involved in production of biologic product lines. Executes manufacturing production schedule, ensuring products are made within established quality and cost standards.
- Drives Performance Excellence culture through continuous improvement programs and initiatives, including Kaizen and 5S.
- Collaborates with Planning group on short and long term production scheduling, ensuring forecast, custom order needs and inventory levels meet demand.
- Supports optimization of manufacturing processes and procedures for new and existing products
- Actively interacts with R & D to ensure effective new product transfer to operations, including translation of customer requirements into specifications and work instructions.
- Engages with Quality function to ensure Quality Systems requirements and standards are met in the production of biologic products.
- Participates in internal as well as external audits, complaint resolutions, document review/upgrade/approval, etc.
- Participates in the development of business strategies to meet business goals and objectives.
- Carries out Human Resource management responsibilities including staffing, development, performance management, compensation planning, etc.
- Promotes a safe work environment and ensures appropriate training and awareness. Responsible for meeting/exceeding HSE plant goals.
- Ensures EH&S policies and procedures are followed and holds others accountable for a safe work environment.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree strongly desired, preferably within a life sciences/biologics discipline
- 3 to 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in all aspects of the production processes within a laboratory environment
- 1-2 years leadership/supervisory experience
- ISO, GMP & SAP experience strongly preferred
- Experience in Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma & Validations) strongly preferred.
Other Qualifications:
- Proven ability to lead others in the achievement of business goals
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to influence others
- Practical knowledge of continuous improvement (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Validations) tools
- Effective written and oral communication skills; to include presentation and meeting skills Effective analytical, technical and problem solving skills.
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing systems (i.e. MRP, ERP, SAP), GMP regulations, and ISO strongly preferred
- Experience with financial management and planning preferred
