Temporary Associate Product Testing Engineer at Canton

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role will assess how well shoes fit through fit testing. This includes: a) reviewing shoes upon receipt, b) fit testing the shoes on an appropriate number of subjects, c) performing necessary physical assessments including dissecting shoes to verify construction, checking products by sight, verifying dimensions, weight, texture, strength and other characteristics, d) compiling and analyzing all sensory data, e) meeting with Product Development Managers to discuss the results, f) writing and distributing Pass/Fail reports to relevant US and Far East personnel in a manner to affect product development timelines.
  • Review design drawings and attend category meetings to identify functional issues of shoes, materials and components that need to be tested. Ensure that testing is completed in time to affect product development timelines.
  • Assess the liking, performance, and durability of shoes through wear testing to determine if they meet Reebok standards and to assess the level of risk for defective returns. This includes: a) reviewing shoes upon receipt, b) arranging for wear test subjects, c) creating questionnaires, log and instruction sheets, d) sending the shoes to test subjects and monitoring the use of the product during the test, e) reviewing worn shoes upon their return, f) performing necessary physical assessments including dissecting shoes to verify construction, checking products by sight, verifying dimensions, weight, texture, strength and other characteristics, g) compiling and analyzing all sensory data using descriptive statistics, h) meeting with Product Development Managers to discuss the results and i) writing and distributing pass/fail reports to relevant US and Far East personnel in a manner to affect product development and production timelines.
  • Organize all data folders with electronic and written information, and archive materials relevant to each study.
  • Qualify new materials from suppliers through mechanical and sensory testing to determine if they meet Reebok standards.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in a science-related field.
  • Ability to conduct research, including collecting, recording, and analyzing mechanical and sensory data in an unbiased, objective manner.
  • Ability to synthesize data and write test results in a clear, concise manner.
  • Experience in Word, spreadsheet, database and statistical software.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a group.
  • Culturally connected to sports and fitness worlds.
  • Understanding of human anatomy and physiology, understanding of mechanical engineering analysis tools and techniques preferred.

What are the essential physical requirements to perform the job:

  • Lift boxes containing shoes (20 pounds).
  • Clear verbal and auditory communication with test subjects.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work with hands to examine product and perform some repetitive motion tasks while processing products.

What are the working conditions the position is exposed to:

  • The work environment is an office setting with lab equipment located nearby. Lab equipment includes pneumatic and hydraulic powered machines to characterize the mechanical properties of materials and shoes.

What is the equipment the employee utilizes to perform the job:

  • Extensive computer use, use of tools typical for foot measurements (Brannock, tape measure), laboratory equipment (impact tester, micrometers, calipers, scales, volumetric gauges, Asker C and Shore D gauges, stick length gauge, ultrasonic thickness gauges and other instruments) and other tools (pliers, knives, etc.)
