The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is the oldest and largest nonprofit MS organization in the U.S. With offices and staff in all 50 states, the Society supports more MS research than any other organization in the world. This position is responsible for providing leadership in all areas of chapter operations including fund development, client programs, financial management, board and staff development. The Chapter funds local programs and services for people with MS and their families, and supports the Societys research mission to find a cure for this chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. The Chapter serves nearly 18,000 people with MS and provides additional support and services to their families, caregivers and healthcare providers. The Chapter had $11 million in total revenue in FY 2012 and the states of Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Headquarters are located in Boston, with local offices in five other locations throughout the chapter territory. There are 46 professionals on staff and 44 members of the Board of Trustees. We are seeking a leader to inspire staff, board, and volunteers in support of our mission. Key performance outcomes expected of the chapter president include:
- Drive revenue growth for the Chapters core special events and develop and implement strategies resulting in growth in individual and corporate donations.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with all constituents and enhance awareness of the Societys mission throughout the Chapter territory.
- Develop a strong relationship with the Board of Trustees, effectively engaging individual members and partnering with the board to attract new members.
- Work closely with regional leadership and participate actively as a member of the Regional Management Team. Ensure collaboration and support for region initiatives.
- Maintain the strong sense of teamwork and foster a positive working environment in the chapter that will motivate staff to higher levels of quality and efficiency.
- With assistance from the Chapters financial team, manage the budget, expenses and cashflow in order to ensure financial stability.
- Increase and strengthen volunteer participation in all chapter programs and events.
- Provide quality delivery of programs, maintain services and outreach to people with MS, and be a leader in advocating for people with MS at the state and local level.
- Participate actively in National Society initiatives and ensure that chapter operations are consistent with the Societys Strategic Response and standards of excellence.
- Participate in the leadership of the Societys collaborative effort on shared data services, with a resource center being located in the chapter.
Job Requirements

- Significant successful leadership experience with a history of job growth and advancement;
- Previous experience in leading collaborative efforts within or between organizations;
- A track record in building high performing teams and creating positive work environments;
- Successful experience in marketing and managing large-scale, special events;
- Ability to develop and sustain effective partnerships with key constituencies;
- Demonstrated ability in securing gifts and contributions from individuals and corporations;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Financial management experience, including developing and managing budgets, understanding financial statements, and a proven ability to meet financial goals;
- Knowledge of the local and regional area served by the chapter preferred;
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, preferably a national health agency.
