Systems Engineer at Newton Upper Falls

Job Description

Do you want to work with Big Data, in a warehouse with hundreds of terabytes of business-critical information, used by dozens of teams and running tens of thousands of jobs every week? Our client is looking for a Systems Engineer to help build and manage our Hadoop-based data analytics environment. We expect the size of the data to double over the next year and we are looking for engineers to help us build a scalable framework for this growth. Prior experience with Hadoop is not required.

Initial Responsibilities:

Ensure the reliable operation of our analytic cluster running Hadoop, Hive, and other open-source technologies

Build operational automation and developer tools for our analytic environment

Troubleshoot, remedy, and deploy solutions for operational issues

Participate in the research, design, and implementation of new technologies for scaling our growing data sets and processing pipelines, for performance improvement and for analyst and developer workload reduction

Necessary Qualifications:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a Linux environment

Fluent with advanced shell scripting plus another scripting language such as Python, Ruby, or Perl.

Two or more years of experience at installing and operating Linux or UNIX servers and applications in a 24/7 production environment

Experience with performance tuning and system load monitoring and diagnostics

Organized, good attention to details, and able to work independently

Comfortable in a fast-paced operations environment with frequent interruptions and irregular hours

Strong written and verbal communications in English

Desired Qualifications:

BS in Computer Science or related technical field

Understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms

Experience with a statically typed, object-oriented language, such as Java, C++, or C#

Ability to analyze and taxonomize data, find aberrations, and draw conclusions

Familiarity with a relational database such as Postgres, MySql, or MS SQL Server
