Director, Business Development at Watertown

Job Description

This position reports directly to the VP of Corporate and Product Strategy. The Corporate and Product Strategy team shapes the strategic direction of the company, with a strong focus on identifying opportunities to drive growth. The team serves as advisors to company leaders and addresses the key questions facing senior management and the Board of Directors. The team is also responsible for shaping the companys strategic plans, anticipating opportunities and threats, and prioritizing initiatives and investments.The Director is responsible for identifying new business opportunities and then analyzing and assessing these opportunities. This includes evaluating market segments, assessing competitive dynamics, and anticipating market trends, tapping into external expertise where necessary. The Director is also responsible for developing business cases and financial analyses to support conclusions and recommendations. The Director will work on several business opportunities simultaneously and is expected to independently develop conclusions under guidance from the VP, Strategy and Product Development, and to make recommendations to senior leaders. This requires significant interaction with senior leaders on an individual and group basis to support the decision making process.The Director will take the lead role in articulating and communicating the results of new business assessments. This may take the form of written reports, one-on-one conversations, and more formal group presentations. The Director will also be responsible for preparing business case documents for senior management and board of directors review.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:Bachelors degree required. MBA preferredEXPERIENCE:7 to 10 years experience in roles of increasing independence and responsibility, with a minimum of 5 years experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, or other relevant field.SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to structure and manage complex business development projects
  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of initiatives and drive to conclusion
  • Results orientation with willingness to both manage and execute assessments
  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills
  • Strategic problem solving and quantitative analysis capabilities
  • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record as a team player with strong business ethics
  • Ability to lead and oversee multiple engagements simultaneously, communicate prioritization of open engagements with direct reports and adjust resources as needed to effectively meet all deadlines as business needs shift
  • Knowledge of health insurance industry is a strong addition
