Tax Manager at Andover

Job Description

Responsibilities: Our client is seeking a Tax Manager in North Andover, Massachusetts (MA). The Tax Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of all clients tax returns whether prepared personally or by supervision of others. The Tax Manager has an extensive knowledge of tax law.Essential Functions:
  • Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills are required
  • The Tax Manager may have input on any tax issue presented
  • Managers develop and train staff
  • Managers are responsible to generate new business; they maintain active referral networks and participate in ongoing direct/indirect marketing initiatives
  • Performs technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity
  • Assumes full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegates to the various tax preparers as deemed necessary
  • Delegates, manages, and performs tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product
  • Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts
  • Acts as a resource for tax preparers/specialists and A&A staff on specific tax issues and/or questions
  • Assists and supervises tax preparers with the more complex business returns
  • Assumes client service responsibility for clients with whom the tax manager works directly or clients where the responsibility is delegated from the partner
  • Maintains contact with client personnel responsible for tax matters during the year
  • Finalizes all engagements as completed products with client and partner
  • Analyzes clients business on a regular basis to generate add-on services; communicates these opportunities directly to client or partner
  • May participate in preparing invoices and details of fees to clients

Job Requirements

Required Experience:
  • At least seven (7) years experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return complexity, scope, and research
  • At least two (2) years experience representing clients before taxing authorities
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers
  • Bachelors degree or Masters degree
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills, as well as to maintain license requirements
  • Participates in career development program to improve managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • A current and valid certified public accountants license is required
  • Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs
  • Proficiency in use of computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs
  • Occasional same day travel for work at clients offices, meetings, and seminars using a personal vehicle
  • Occasional overtime work required throughout the year
  • Heavy overtime work required from January 1 to April 15, may be in excess of 55 hours per week
