The Greater Boston Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association (GBC) offers an extraordinary opportunity for a new executive leader to partner with its Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to pursue an ambitious and exciting agenda. The new Executive Director will lead an organization highly respected in the spinal cord injury community and poised for continued growth.

The Greater Boston Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association (GBC) is a non-profit 501 c (3) organization founded to assist people with spinal cord injuries in "rebuilding their lives." The GBC focuses on enabling people to live with their disability to their fullest potential. GBCs activities include early intervention, peer visitation, information dissemination and referrals, advocacy, public awareness, education, and social activities.
Role and responsibilities:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the lead administrative and operational officer overseeing all of the Chapters day-to-day activities including:
Collaborating with Board of Directors to develop long and short-term strategic plans while ensuring that the priorities are aligned with the GBCs mission.
Working closely and in a collaborative manner with Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and other local and national community leaders to implement mission and strategies.
Providing leadership in developing programmatic, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
Overseeing chapter programmatic elements, including: Early Intervention Program and Peer Visitation Program as well as other programs to engage families, newly injured and previously injured individuals.
Managing the Chapters operating plans, budgets, technology and communications efforts to support the goals of the GBC.
Developing and implementing strategies for philanthropic and grant support from corporations, foundations, government agencies and donors to enhance Chapter activities.
Providing leadership to set goals for and manage performance of GBC staff and volunteers.
Promoting active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organizations work.
Advocating on behalf of the SCI community to law makers and at selected public forums.
Communicating the organizations mission and vision and serve as an effective spokesperson via speeches, testimony and media interviews and written materials.
Maintaining official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Qualifications and experience:
The ideal candidate shall be a seasoned professional who has demonstrated increasing levels of management/leadership responsibilities and authority. She/he will possess strong administrative skills and be able to work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers as well the ability to gain the confidence and respect of his/her peers and colleagues. The candidate will be hands-on and be motivated to meet performance and metrics based outcomes. This individual should have a strong writing background and demonstrate poise under stress and project deadlines. She/he should possess fundraising and development experience and skills to cultivate corporate, foundation and donor support successfully. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to build and nurture relationships in the medical rehabilitation community. The candidate should have a working knowledge of the phases of medical rehabilitation. It is desired that the candidate be familiar with Federal and State programs/services, Medicaid and Medicare and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Personal Characteristics and education:
The ideal candidate will have a passion to make a significant positive impact on lives of those in the spinal cord injured community. An undergraduate degree is required.
