JOB SUMMARY: Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army. About the Position:
The Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is a relatively small organization with a mission critical to our national defense. Our job is to process applicants for all five services into the armed forces. The job is both challenging and rewarding. For most new military service members, processing through the MEPS is the first real exposure to a military operation. For that reason, we seek customer-oriented employees with a desire to serve their country in a meaningful way. The Boston MEPS activity is located in beautiful historic Boston, MA, which provides unparalleled access to cultural, sports, civil, and recreational activities. DUTIES:Back to top  - You will verify applicants’ Emergency Data Records.- You will prepare correspondence in accordance with agency regulations.- You will utilize an automated system to fingerprint individuals.- You will manage lodging, food, and expense records for specified staff or employees.- You will assemble documents in accordance with specific military service requirements.- You will distribute applicant documents to appropriate organizations.- You will Interview candidates to obtain and verify background information.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to top Specialized Experience: To Qualify applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level of GS-04. Specialized experience is defined as: Work that involves fingerprinting applicants, verifying documents, recording information for electronic files, maintenance and accountability of enlistment records, and enlistment processing procedures. OR Qualifying with Education: Incumbent may qualify for the GS-05 provided they possess up to four years of college coursework above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR Qualifying with a combination of specialized experience and education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at the GS-5 grade level. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of post-high school education by 60 semester hours. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) *Please note, you MUST attach a copy of your transcripts if qualifying with education. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
  • KNOWLEDGE OF ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT FUNCTIONS
  • SKILL IN UTILIZING PERSONNEL DATABASE SYSTEMS
  • ABILITY TO PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE
 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction. Time in Grade Restriction: Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-04 grade (or equivalent).
