Patent Paralegal Job



Yoh has a contract opportunity for a Patent Paralegal to join our client in Andover, MA.

Job Responsibilities: - Assist in maintaining the internal electronic docket system by entering actions and deadlines into the docketing database; establish and maintain electronic and paper files and prepare regular docket reports for Eisai patent practitioners.- Reporting annuity payment deadlines, obtaining Eisai practitioner instructions, and arranging timely payment for US and foreign annuities.- Communicating with outside counsel regarding established Eisai policies and procedures with some interactions requiring practitioner-originated instructions.- Regular reporting on IP activities to Eisai leadership.- Obtaining signatures on Powers of Attorney, Declarations, Assignment documents and other formal papers.- Scheduling meetings, preparing the IP group calendar, maintaining the patent file room, and maintaining continuing legal education records.- Work with in-house practitioners to prepare, track, and report on IP budgets.- Specific responsibilities may include gathering past budget data, identifying fixed costs such as annuity fees, forecasting and tracking budget with oversight from in-house practitioners and Eisai management.- Process invoices including, invoice intake either in paper or electronic form, obtaining practitioner review and approval, submitting for payment, and resolving discrepancies.

Job Qualifications: - Basic knowledge of latest issues / trends regarding United States and foreign patent law.- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) is preferred.- Basic knowledge of docketing U.S. and foreign prosecution deadlines.- Basic understanding of the concepts of privilege and confidentiality.- Understands Assignment, Declaration, Power of Attorney, and other documents required by various countries patent laws.- Ability to perform all tasks associated with job responsibilities with some supervision.- Strong oral and written communication skills: able to communicate clearly and effectively in interactions with researchers, practitioners, and business clients.- Critical thinking: ability to use logic to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternatives and devise solutions in collaboration with others.- Working knowledge and some proficiency in:- Microsoft Office Suite, -Lotus Notes, Patent docketing software (e.g., Computer Packages Inc.), and U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices patent application information retrieval system.- Ability to prioritize, set timelines and manage practitioner expectations with supervision.- Able to structure and adapt tasks to achieve maximum value within time available with some oversight.- Able to propose options and solve problems creatively.- Paralegal certificate with at least one year of Intellectual Property experience at a firm or company or at least three plus years of Intellectual Property experience, including docket and/or annuity database management (e.g., Computer Packages Inc.).
