Work Schedule: 6AM - 2:30PM ROTATING SCHEDULE W HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS and 3:30 PM - 12 AM MON - FRI  (SELECTEE MAY BE HIRED TO WORK EITHER SCHEDULE BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE FACILITY).

The facilities service line has one vacancy for a housekeeping aid.  As a housekeeping aid you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties.  Duties include the following:

 

  • Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, and other areas
  • Sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets, and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings with climbing small ladders
  • Refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers, move furniture and strip and refinish hard surface floors
  • Carry out assignments with a minimum of supervision
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, Venetian blinds, and counter tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, shower stalls, and sinks.

Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and countertops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:  The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds.  Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations.  Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises.  Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.

EXPERIENCE:  A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.   Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ). 

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:  Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.  Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.  The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions.  The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a housekeeping aid without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS:  Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements

1. Work practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)

2. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)

3. Ability to use and mantain tools and equipment

4. Dexterity and safety
