As a Transportation Assistant Personal Property/Office Automation (OA), you will be responsible for the following:

  • Advise on entitlement or procedures related to temporary storage of goods, weight allowances, prohibited items and shipment of unaccompanied baggage, privately owned vehicles and household goods.
  • Prepare cost estimates maintain records of lot storage, weight allowances to assist customer in determining the best method of movement.
  • Determine carriers and arrange for the pickup, delivery and storage of personal property.
  • Review shipping documents to determine arrangement and disposition.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: Understanding of transportation operations to include regulations and procedures governing the shipment/storage of personal property. Reading, interpreting and applying transportation and traffic management relations, policies, directives and orders.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Typing at least 40 WPM (need to qualify for position): This position requires you to be a qualified typist, typing at least 40 words per minute (WPM) with three (3) or fewer errors based on a five (5) minute sample.

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of transportation regulations.
  • Knowledge of Government Bill of Lading.
  • Knowledge of modes and types of transportation.
  • Knowledge of shipment of personal property.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-05 grade (or equivalent).


Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
