Software Engineer (Sales & Marketing/CSTAR)

Responsibilities

This position is the overall technical subject matter expert for the assigned asset(s), is the face of the dedicated support team for technology and business partner teams throughout the origanization, and provides direct or indirect leadership to a team of technology professionals (employee, contract employee, offshore, and vendor).

  • You will be the Software Engineer and technical subject matter expert for Columbia sales & marketing technologies, notably the CSTAR (Columbia Sales Tracking and Reporting) system. CSTAR collects sales data from internal and third party client firms (broker/dealers, independent advisor, private bank, defined plans, etc.), attributes the transactions and assets to sales channels and territories, and provides business users with tools for high performance reporting, data cleaning, and maintaining business rules, sales hierarchy and report distribution.

  • Deliver innovative solutions and flawless functional changes to sales and marketing systems, working closely with business users in sales, marketing and finance who perform analytics, business intelligence, reporting, data governance, cleaning & attribution, and strategic or tactical decision-making roles within the business.

  • Grow and manage productive and mutually beneficial relationships with sales, marketing & finance business users and their leaders.

  • Proactively stays informed of sales & marketing business and technology trends, products and solutions, and communicate/educate technology and business partners.

  • Key contributor to the Sales & Marketing technology 1/3/5-year business technology strategy.

  • Provide direct or indirect leadership to a team of support professionals (employee, contract employee and vendor), in technology and in the business.

  • Effectively monitor and nurture Columbia sales & marketing applications to ensure they are operating at optimum stability and performance

  • Primary code owner for the assigned asset(s) accountable for code quality and will be the chief debugger, analyst and technical subject matter expert.

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the vendor owned software code, including messaging capabilities, import/export functions, interfaces, most effective environment to operate in, etc.;

  • Own the code for custom built applications in the environment and keep them up-to-date with any impactful software vendor code changes

  • Provide effective leadership for the development team that will be responsible for shepherding development release changes to production, including enhancements, optimizations, upgrades, defect remediation, and risk mitigation.

  • Recommend optimizations based upon your knowledge of the business, software code, vendor products, and the internal environment.

  • Assist the business with troubleshooting data anomalies.

  • Maintain high accountability for third party vendor relationships.

  • Manage Issue / Risk logs and escalate issues appropriately.

  • Track and publish key metrics.

  • Conduct code walkthroughs of outtask vendor code.

  • Own all aspects of the application asset, including upstream/downstream impacts, managed infrastructure, performance, data accuracy and currency, to increasingly drive business effectiveness and reduce production incidents and outages.

  • Responsible for application monitoring, error reporting, production readiness and adhering to the companys development policies & standards, such as SOX information technology general controls for change management.

  • Effectively use defined change management procedures and quality management processes.

Required Qualifications

Qualified applicants will be skilled technologists with a breadth of experiences with a tenacity and passion for innovation, solving business problems, and operational excellence.

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent job experience

  • 7+ years technical and business analysis experience

  • 3+ years in lead development role

  • Asset Management industry experience, preferably including knowledge of mutual fund intermediary sales/distribution

  • Experience in systems analysis, design and an expert understanding of development, quality assurance and integration methodologies

  • Proven ability to write quality, high performance code using the programming language(s) specific to the asset or capability, and the ability to lead a team of developers to do the same

  • Strong skills and experience with the following technologies:

    • PL/SQL, .NET and Java programming;

    • Unix, AIX or Linux operating system and scripting

    • Windows servers

    • Oracle database, stored procedures, indexing, optimization

  • Familiarity with the following technologies:

    • Business Objects Enterprise reporting

    • Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) or similar job scheduling tools

    • Informatica or similar ETL tools

  • Proven ability to manage and optimize complex batch workflow, processing and performance

  • Familiar with fundamental data architecture concepts for business intelligence and data mining

  • Ability to develop and effectively leverage relationships across an organization at all levels

  • Experience and ability to partner and manage offshore outtask vendors and development teams

  • Strong problem-solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills combined with effective relationship management skills

  • Adept at building and applying business acumen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Mutual Fund Sales Reporting, particularly for Intermediary Sales Distribution

  • Desired experience with any or all of the following: CSTAR, Access Data SalesVision, DST SalesConnect, or other similar mutual fund intermediary sales attribution and reporting systems -- functional capabilities, design, business rules, system performance, business data

  • Strong experience with Business Objects Enterprise reporting platform (XIr2 or higher)

  • Familiar with datamart & data warehousing solutions, rules engines, business intelligence technologies

  • Knowledge of Netezza data warehouse appliance

  • Experience with web technologies such as HTML, XML, CSS, JSP, JavaScript, Web Services

  • Experience with Salesforce.com configuration and development (Apex, VisualForce)
